HABITAT WAUSAU IS SEARCHING FOR THEIR NEXT PARTNER FAMILIES!

Habitat for Humanity Wausau (Habitat Wausau) is searching for their next partner families. The 2025 application period for Habitat Wausau’s Homeownership Program is now open.   Applications will be accepted now through March 24, 2025.


Who should apply?  Households living in substandard or inadequate housing, seeking housing affordable housing not to exceed 30% of their income, are willing to partner, and have the ability to repay a zero-interest 30-year mortgage financed by Habitat Wausau should reach out to Habitat Wausau for more information about the application process. 

Program Qualifications:

 

  • Need for Housing: Based on current housing conditions there must be a demonstrated need for improved housing. Applicants must be United States Citizens or Permanent Resident and should be residents of the greater Wausau area for at least one (1) year and can pass a criminal background check. 

  • Ability to Pay: Homeownership Program families will be purchasing a habitat home, they must have the ability to pay a 30-year, interest free mortgage. Eligible income limits are between $33,200 – $75,120 based on family size.


  • Willingness to Partner: Families must be willing to work in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Wausau and complete 300 hours of sweat equity by attending classes, workshops, attending events, volunteering at the Wausau  ReStore, and helping with home construction.

Eligible income limits 30-60% of the median income for Marathon County, based US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 2024 income limits.  See ranges provided below for household acceptable ranges.

Households interested in applying are highly encouraged to attend an informational meeting to learn more about the application process. Everyone is encouraged to attend a session, but it is not required.

Informational meetings will be held Tuesday, February 11 at 6pm, Thursday, February 15 at 10am and Saturday, February 20 at 10am at Habitat for Humanity of Wausau’s office in Weston.  Registration is recommended. About Habitat for Humanity of Wausau: Since 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Wausau has built 73 homes in our community. Habitat for Humanity of Wausau is currently constructing Home 74 & 75 in conjunction with the DC Everest and Mosinee Highschool construction trades program.

In addition to new homeownership, Habitat Wausau provides critical home repairs to families in the Greater Wausau area who own their own homes and meet the income guidelines.  Since 2024 Habitat Wausau has acquired Ramp Up Marathon County and volunteers from both organizations successfully completed 4 ramps to qualifying families in Marathon County in 2024. 

Funding for Habitat Wausau programs comes from donors, grants, in-kind support of building materials, in-kind donations to the Wausau Habitat ReStore, and proceeds from Wausau Habitat ReStore located in Weston.  Wausau ReStore is a primary funding source for Habitat Wausau new home construction. Retail store hours are Wednesday - Friday 10am – 4pm and Saturdays from 9am - 2pm. Proceeds from our Wausau ReStore support Habitat Wausau programing.
