Habitat for Humanity of Wausau has been awarded the $100,000 Impact100 Greater Wausau Grant to support the expansion of the organization’s growing Critical Home Repair Program across Marathon County.
The transformational investment will fund a Mobile Critical Home Repair Unit, Construction Support Vehicle, and the tools and safety equipment needed to mobilize volunteers more efficiently and safely complete repairs for families in need.
Habitat Wausau currently has more than 112 families waiting for repair assistance. Many homeowners served through the program are seniors, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and working families living on fixed or limited incomes who are struggling to maintain safe and stable housing as construction costs continue to rise.
“This investment will allow us to dramatically increase our ability to serve families across Marathon County,” said Tiffany Arnold, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Wausau. “The challenge is not volunteer interest — it’s capacity. This project removes barriers so we can mobilize volunteers more efficiently, reduce wait times for repairs, and help more families safely remain in the homes they love.”
Habitat’s Critical Home Repair Program focuses on projects that improve safety, accessibility, weatherization, and housing preservation. Services include accessibility ramps, grab bar installation, stair and entry repairs, exterior safety improvements, and neighborhood revitalization efforts through Rock the Block.
Since launching the repair program in 2022, Habitat Wausau has rapidly expanded the number of families served annually and anticipates continued growth with the support of this infrastructure investment.
“This grant is not simply an investment in vehicles or equipment,” Arnold added. “It is an investment in preserving affordable homes, strengthening neighborhoods, and helping families maintain stability and independence for years to come.”
Impact100 Greater Wausau is made up of local women who collectively pool their donations to fund transformational projects within the community. Habitat for Humanity of Wausau expressed gratitude to Impact100 Greater Wausau, community partners, volunteers, donors, and supporters who helped advocate for the growing need for critical home repairs throughout Marathon County.
