Creating Awareness for Foster Care Needs
Wausau, WI— A Foster Care Awareness Fair will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Wausau Woodson YMCA Gymnasium from 10 AM to Noon. This event is free for families to attend and has been developed to educate our community about the growing need for foster parents. The event has been created by the Transformational Leadership team and will be supported by the Marathon County Social Services.
In honor of May being National Foster Care Awareness Month, during this event representatives from Marathon County Social Services, Anu Family Services, Foundations Health & Wholeness, Lutheran Social Services and licensed foster parents will be on-site to present information and answer questions. The awareness fair will also include many fun-filled activities for families to enjoy while they are learning about the needs of foster care. Bouncy houses, yard games, free books for children, a lollipop stand, plus an exciting “passport” game where you will earn points at six stations by answering questions while you learn about foster care needs. A completed passport earns a chance at winning amazing gift baskets valued at $ 100 each. The first 100 guests in attendance will also receive free give-away bags with fun items for children and educational tips on foster care needs.
“With the growing and continuing need for foster care in our area, we felt inspired to help our community learn more about foster care. Our goal is to create awareness of the need for foster care and help inspire individuals in our area to consider becoming a foster parent. With May being National Foster Care Month, we thought this would be a great event to help advocate for foster care in the Marathon County area, plus provide a free event for families to enjoy,” said Stephanie Breitenfeldt, a member of the Transformational Leadership team that created this event. The event is being sponsored by the following businesses: Church Mutual Insurance, S.I; Crystal Finishing Systems; Linetec; Peoples State Bank; and UWSP.
