Salary Information
The salary rate is determined by the agreement between the City of Wausau and Local 1168 Amalgamated Transit Union, AFL-CIO. The hourly rate progression is:
$19.11 starting, $21.14 at 6 months, $22.06 at 12 months, $23.03 at 24 months, $23.72 at 48 months.
Purpose of the Position
To perform a variety of activities involving manual labor in the cleaning of the exterior and interior of transit system buses and property.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Wash and clean the exterior and interior of transit vehicles.
- Clean the transit administrative building and transit center facility.
- Clean and maintain transit bus stops and passenger shelters.
- Clean, cut grass and maintain grounds, to include walks, driveway, and parking area around transit system property.
- Fuel transit vehicles.
- Maneuver transit vehicles.
- Record daily vehicle data.
- Perform maintenance and repair tasks at the Transit System garage, including minor plumbing and electrical.
- Perform related work as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Medical Card and State of Wisconsin Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with air brake and passenger endorsement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the State of Wisconsin and maintain throughout employment
- Ability to learn to operate a transit bus
- Ability to operate a transit bus with passengers aboard
- Ability to accurately record various readings into a daily log for each transit vehicle
- Ability to perform manual labor such as snow shoveling, mowing grass, mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, etc.
- This position is subject to the Metro Ride Drug & Alcohol Testing program
Physical and Working Environment
Limited exposure to disagreeable elements such as dirt, temperature fluctuations, and/or limited exposure to weather conditions. Limited travel within the City of Wausau.
Normal mental and visual attention is required. Moderate physical demands typically found in service and maintenance work with moderate exposure to workplace hazards. Requires regular lifting, bending, twisting, turning, and use of power equipment. Ability to walk, stand, lay on ground, and work in extreme weather conditions.
