Midwest Communications owns and operates 81 radio stations in an 8 state area; 5 of those radio stations are in Wausau!  We are seeking a full-time Human Resources Assistant - Benefits to join our Corporate team in Wausau, WI. This is a mid-level position. We are looking for an individual who understands the importance of accuracy and attention to detail, is self-motivated, exhibits good judgment, is highly organized, and has previous experience administering benefit programs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Complete day-to-day benefit related tasks necessary for Human Resources (HR) to support timely and accurate pay-checks to employees.
  • Administer benefit programs to ensure coverage accuracy and compliance with legal requirements while maintaining needed confidentiality.
  • Monitor data files pertaining to benefit programs, such as 401(k) and flexible spending accounts.
  • Maintain employee benefit reports and perform benefit audits, such as the annual Cafeteria Plan Census.
  • Proof and distribute annual notices, SAR documents, benefit booklets, and other legally required benefit related documents.
  • Examine and distribute annual 1095-C Forms in compliance with IRS laws and deadlines.
  • Assist with tasks pertaining to employees’ time off, absences, and electronic time records.
  • Draft documents and/or manuals pertaining to Human Resources policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Provide support for the performance management platform pertaining to annual reviews.
  • Design and create forms and documents in Excel, Word, and Adobe PDF.


  • Experience administering benefits required.
  • Experience drafting HR materials/communications required; exceptional written communication skills needed.
  • Logical decision making and judgement.
  • Must have strong computer, organizational (including multi-tasking abilities) and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in computer programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Ability to execute tasks using superb attention to detail and accuracy to minimize time and monetary loss due to errors. Able to meet deadlines.
  • Mathematical skills, including arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations.
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined with excellent attendance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, business courses and/or some college preferred.
  • Knowledge of Paylocity HRIS software, a plus.
